I started programming because it was fun; you can create something out of nothing and it requires creativity while providing a challenge! I started out coding at home as a hobby, doing BASIC on my Atari 800 when I was 10. In high school I let that go by the wayside as I became a rock and roller. When I graduated I decided to pursue music and moved to San Francisco. The music career never took off, but I did get back into computers by working for a commune that had a computer company that they used to fund their hippy ways. Ten years later, I went back to school to get a degree in Computer Science.
I had a couple of jobs after getting my degree but I decided to join EnderTech because Gabe was very personable, and it seemed like a fun work environment. When I joined the team, the office was basically a 20 x 20 room full of four or five coders and an artist or two. It was very start-up and anti-corporate, so I was attracted to that.
So far my favorite project has been Pet Friendly Travel. Aside from enjoying the work, I also like the subject matter and the owner. I’ve known Tracey for about five years now. She’s a great person and a pleasure to do business with. She also encourages me to contribute creatively, which I like.
Three things everyone should know about me:
1. I never really noticed kids until I had my own. Now I find myself smiling whenever I see kids playing. Parenthood is awesome.
2. I like listening to music. I like playing music. I recommend everyone learn to play an instrument. It’s very therapeutic.
3. I believe the future of humanity is dependent on our ability to dismiss superstition and prejudice and to think critically.
